FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fox Theatre Institute announces celebration of Georgia’s historic theaters with “Revival” concert hosted by Kevn Kinney, September 13
Headliners include Drive-By Truckers, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Drivin N Cryin, Dodd & the Councilmen and special guests; proceeds to benefit FTI’s historic preservation programs

ATLANTA (March 11, 2019) – On September 13, 2019 at 7 p.m. Kevn Kinney will join the Fox Theatre Institute (FTI) to host an unforgettable night as the non-profit celebrates Georgia’s historic theaters and FTI’s tenth year of preserving and supporting Georgia’s most significant historic resources. With performances by Drive-By Truckers, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Drivin N Cryin and Dodd & The Councilmen, this unique storytelling event is inspired by the essence of the Fox Theatre Institute’s mission to serve historic theatres and arts centers and keep the heartbeat of performing arts, creativity, and historic preservation alive. Attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on a variety of unique rock memorabilia items in a silent auction with proceeds benefitting the ongoing outreach programs of the Fox Theatre Institute. Additionally, other notable guests will be announced as the event nears closer.

Once threatened and saved by caring community members itself, a strong sense of togetherness, empathy and insight remains visible through the work of the Fox Theatre Institute. Founded in 2008, the Fox Theatre Institute has committed more than $1.3 million dollars throughout Georgia and provided historic theaters with preservation guidance, professional development, collaboration opportunities and strategic planning. The Institute also manages Georgia Presenters, a statewide booking consortium, which helps spark collaboration among dozens of accomplished arts presenters.

“Empowering performing arts centers by providing them with the tools they need to strengthen their vitality within their communities is at the heart of the Fox Theatre Institute’s mission” said vice president and chief operating officer of the Fox Theatre, Adina Erwin. “We look forward to celebrating, honoring and, most importantly, serving Georgia’s historic theaters with patrons and beneficiaries of the Institute alike for the tenth year.”

From being an audience member to headlining numerous shows, Kevn Kinney, leader singer of Atlanta rock band Drivin N Cryin, has shared an incredible journey with the Fox Theatre. As narrator of the evening, Kinney will welcome performers and special guests to share their own stories about how performing arts centers have made a significant impact on their lives while also sharing some of his most cherished memories from Georgia’s cultural centers.

“I remember walking through the same doors that my parents did 50 years before and looking up at the Fox Theatre’s grand ornate lobby and feeling like everyone here was special,” said Kevn Kinney. “To me, that’s what makes the Fox Theatre Institute so remarkable. Theaters hold our memories and stories in the walls, where people have laughed, cried and come together. The Fox Theatre Institute helps preserve the fond recollections of a simpler time and represents what community means, and it is an honor for me to support those efforts.”

The Institute’s mission and celebration of Georgia’s historic theaters has garnered the attention and support from other like-minded industry giants and preservationists like Bertis Downs, advisor of Athens rock band R.E.M. An Athens resident himself, Downs recognizes the integral role that cultural arts centers play in fostering strong artistic communities throughout the state.

“From my days growing up in Decatur and Clarkston and going to concerts downtown, to my time in law school, when I took my little brother to his first show ever, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on the Darkness tour, to seeing The Clash when I was just out of law school and then the many R.E.M. Thanksgiving shows there all through the 1980s, the Fox has always been a place of magic and community. And now that the Institute is sharing some of what it has and knows with other theaters in other places around Georgia, my sense is that the magic will spread to other communities,” said Bertis Downs.

Tickets to the benefit concert go on sale Friday, March 15 at 10 a.m. Tickets are available for purchase at FoxTheatre.org, the Fox Theatre ticket office at 660 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30308 and by calling 855-285-8499.
